About Irene Walters LAc, LMT

My journey to alternative healthcare began at an early age.  My mother was a Registered Nurse and I spent many of my formative years hearing about and watching her care for others (and occasionally lending a hand).  I remember her telling me that nursing is hard on the body and having her encourage me to follow a different path.  I tried that, but after completing my Bachelor’s at University of Iowa, I returned home-unsatisfied.  And so, I found massage therapy and not long after that, my interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine blossomed.
The seed for Mend Wellness was planted in 2009 at the SOMA Institute of Clinical Massage Therapy, where I completed a year long program with hands on clinical hours. I began my independent massage practice in 2010 and have since been joyfully providing massage. I have worked in small clinics and for major chains, but massage is a passion of mine no matter where I practice. In 2012 I began to expand my skill set by enrolling in NUHS (National University of Health Sciences) for a Master’s in Science: Oriental Medicine. I spent three years devoted to study to become a Licensed Acupuncturist, conferred August 2015, and have been in private practice ever since!
What I find so special about this career track is that I have honored my mother’s wishes while still being able to have a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of others. There is such satisfaction in service and it is an honor to be a bodyworker. I believe that every body deserves compassionate, contemplative, and nurturing touch. I strive to create an atmosphere of safety and shelter for each client to facilitate the body’s awesome ability to mend itself. I look forward to every session as an opportunity to usher you into your best state of wellness. I am grateful to be on this path with you.
